Biography
I am a PhD candidate in the department of Philosophy at UIUC; before that, I did an MSc in 'Ethics, Epistemology, and Mind' through The University of Edinburgh (2014). Before that, I did my MA in Critical Methodologies (Critical Theory) at King's College, London, (2012).
My main interests are: moral psychology, moral decision making, the philosophy of cognitive science, and philosophy of psychology, more broadly. I also think a lot about how social and moral norms are acquired, and how these norms guide our thoughts in everyday social situations.
Labs: I have been a longstanding member of the Decision Making Lab at UIUC; I served as an RA for two semesters in this lab. Here, I contributed to an empirical project, exploring the relationship between moral judgment and rationality. I have also been a part of the Infant Cognition Lab on campus, where I worked as an action experimenter; this experience helped to inform my understanding of developmental psychology with respect to early applications of theory of mind, and perspective taking.
Research: My dissertation is predominantly on the topic of empathy. Right now, I'm researching and writing mostly about the epistemic and cognitive dimensions of empathetic perspective-taking.
Teaching: I have TAed for many courses, including intro to ethics, biomedical ethics, as well intro to logic. I have also taught both intro to philosophy and a composition course through the lens of critical theory, as an independent instructor. I have been a recipient of both the graduate teaching award (2019), and have been amongst teachers' ranked as excellent or outstanding over the course of various semesters. I have also mentored some students in the Decision Making lab.
